interior design
(from one dumbass to another)
objective
welcome to my notes on interior design. i am better at glaring at advice than actually following it, so here's to turning over a new leaf. if i were a male, my room would belong on r/malelivingspaces. however, i'm a female, so i have no excuse.
Answering Reddit's Interior Design Questions
- LED strips will not light up a room. Use lamps.
- Use low Kelvin / soft light lightbulbs to make the space feel warmer.
- Play up the weird aspects of your home (ex. weird corners).
- Use curtains with caution. They can elevate a space, but for some windows, they will ruin the space.
- more notes on curtains:
- drapes feel elegant and grand. they can also add texture and accent a window.
- cafe curtains are cute.
- roman shades are contemporary but homey.
- pull-down shades are modern.
- add a rug to that floor.
- when everything matches, a space has no soul. accent pieces are important!
Damn Dude, You Live Like This?
- hey, pinterest gives me the same orange green boho idk what this is!
- use three-dimensional objects to bring in dimension. not every table has to be a box. use curves.
- gray is neutral. it brings nothing to the table.
- texture and patterns won't kill you.
- contrast between fullness and negative space---collect the busy stuff and leave some breathing room.
- frame your shit.
ideas for self
- for a bed frame: boxes.
- for shelves by door: six boxes? two stacks of three boxes for height. put catchall tray there and extra kitchen spices / shelf stable shit. but then where does the pullup bar go?
- consider moving bookshelf to the doorframe area
